Replacement fresh water tank needed
I need to replace our fresh water tank in the MH, (1979 28' center bath). It has a crack in the top. It is located under the driver's side rear twin bed and is "J" shaped to fit the space allowed by other components under the bed.
I called the local dealer and InlandRV...waiting on parts search & pricing from both of them.
I'd rather not plastic weld it, as the rest of the tank is still 26 years old.
Any advise out there? or anyone know of a cross reference (to newer AS model) I might be able to use?

I have a white plastic fresh water tank from a 70s Argosy. Sat on the floor at the front of the coach under the gaucho. Needs one weld where inlet meets the tank. I thing it should fit in an Airstream. You could have it for cheap. I am in NM.

An option you may wish to consider
These folks took extremely good care of me. Quick service and the prices were outstanding. You may need to email or phone them to see if they have what you need.

Their price was a little less than half what I was being quoted locally.

Here's what I've ended up doing. The original tank from 1951 was far too small for what we needed and the fittings had rotted out. We ordered a 32 gal tank from Plasti-mart.com and had it in a week. Here's a comparison of the old and the new, and the new tank sitting in place.

After visiting such a place, this is what I decided to do (when I need to)

All things considered, your tank appears to be a simple shape. Your local plastic fabricator should be able to make one for a reasonable amount of money.

Does the crack go down the side? Man, I'd go with an in-place repair if possible.

AS factory has one in stock for $160 + S&H. I'd rather go w/ new upgrade that I know fits in this location of my MH. As you can see from the above photos, it's not square or retangle and has several special "cut-outs" to fit around grey water vent and heat tubes, filler spout, city water hook-up, etc.
I'd rather replace the whole 27 yr old unit than have it "welded" and a different crack develop, resulting in more damage to the interior of our MH.
Thanks for the advice and references though.

For $ 160.00 I would not even think or blink - write a check and go for it.
That is a very reasonable price for such a tank. Might add $ 50.00 or so for shipping, but still, custom tanks in odd shapes are always $$$$$$$$.

My tank, 32 gallons, cost me $127. They do have a fairly comprehensive range of tanks at Plasti-mart.
One of the places who made/make a lot of the tanks for the RV's is
Inca Plastics Inc.
It would not hurt to contact them to see if they were the original supplier and if so if they can make one.
I also wonder if there's a way to go on the Airstream website, get a list of their dealers, and do some emailing to see if anyone has one in stock sitting on a shelf they'd want to unload. Just a thought. There's not THAT many dealers out there.
Let us know what you decide. In the meantime you could have it welded back up - that is not that big a deal to do and repairs are generally stronger than the tank was at that spot. Then you can take your time deciding what you are going to do.
