Replace or repair water pump

I just got my home after 8 months in storage.

I'm now fixing a few things on it to get it ready for my first trip and I discovered that the water pump isn't working to my dismay.

Before I moved it, the pump seemed to work fine, but when I tried it now, it wouldn't come on at all.

I was looking in the compartment and touched a wire and suddenly it started to run. If I jiggled the wires I managed to get it to run and stay on. It built up pressure, but then suddenly it started to have a burning smell.

I shut it off and left it at that.

My Airstream is a 1976 Overlander.

Should I replace the pump and have a safer system? What specifications do I need (3 GPM? 55 PSI?)
What brands do people use and are you satisfied with them today?

If it smells burnt it is prob toast, the new pumps run way quiet with a strong flow, shop around.

whats the recommended flow I should have 3 or 4 gallons per minute?

Also: it's a 76 overlander: I can see the pump through the small opening just next to the door, but is that the way to access it? It's so small! How do I access the pump to change it?
