no flow when connected to trailer park water

Hello fellow Airstreamers.

I'm a newbie with a freshwater question. I'm a full-timer who recently returned to my 23' 1978 Safari after a 6-month absence and cannot seem to get good flow after re-connecting my trailer park's supply. When I run the pump I get decent flow, but no pressure if I don't run the pump. I know that the park's water supply is pushing sufficient pressure because I used it to fill my freshwater tank.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A valve going wrong way?

First place to look is the screen at the input connection. Second test the flow from just the hose itself.

My faucet aerator screen was almost totally blocked with sediment from the hot water tank when it filled. I cleaned the screen and all was well.

With park water attached, turn on the external faucet...it runs off the water pressure inside the RV. If no 'flow', then the screen on the inbound city water is restricted. There are some possibilities where the 'inlet' pressure regulator may be corroded...or otherwise obstructed..

Unfortunately, my trailer doesn't have a screen at the fresh water inlet...but that suggestion got me thinking that the blockage might be in that area. I removed the check valve and verified that it worked, so I've narrowed it down to the regulator and/or the horizontal line which feeds it. I'll keep you posted.

Once you get things working, pick up a package of garden hose washers with screens and install one in the fresh water inlet.

You will find them in the washing machine supply hose area of any place that sells washing machines.

The screen in your inlet might be plugged up.

They only way to get mine to work (74 Overlaner) is to fill the tank. Is ther a valve to bypass the tank if hooked to a water source?

Hey guys, turns out the 37-year old pressure regulator was the culprit. Took it apart and found it all corroded and stuck. A few splashes of vinegar and some elbow grease got the valve moving again.

I'll be sure to get some screens on the inlet side to hopefully keep some of the minerals out of the regulator in the future.

Great! Sometimes you just have to "dig in!"

If that part is corroded, have you flushed your water heater?

Great question, cwf. I did, but didn't watch it very closely to see how much gunk may have come out. Probably not a bad idea to flush that thing again, I'm thinking.

Some folks have run 'white vinegar' through theirs... I have not... I figure a good flush should be sufficient.. You could use a soft wire to see if you can scrape out any larger chunks that might/might not be there..
