Need some Wisdom...

Greetings from Florida!
I have a 1974 31' sovereign. Pretty good condition except plumbing. The question relates to the cavity under the galley sink. The fresh water distribution valves are under there I believe. My problem is the roll away cabinet doors. They are all in good clean condition visibly. But half of them on my trailer will bunch up inside their assembly and not open. This includes my plumbing cavity. I have tried different speeds and feeding them with my fingers from every angle. I geuss its Demolition time?
Any ideas or tricks to this? I really want to keep as much of the original furniture and accessories in the trailer as I can...

BTW the reason I need to get in there is to access my valves and filters in order to overhaul the plumbing system... Im not a big fan of chalky fresh water full of gunk. <---------Thats after I cleaned out the tank!

Check the threads for "lubricating" tambour doors. I have used silicone spray with success.

I think you will be somewhat disappointed with your level of access to the valves, even with the tambour door out of the way.

Unfortunately, they are crammed into a small gap between the floor and the fresh water support (1" thick plywood) and getting them in and out is not easy.

Disassembly of the galley assembly will allow closer inspection of the doors and probably reveal the problem with their opening/closing. I've found that the veneer tends to come loose on the top and bottom and and get caught in the scrolls which the door goes into.

Disassembly of the galley is not very much fun either.

how do you get those horizontally sliding doors out? like the one under your stove...can you remove the upper or lower rail, so the door can be taken out?
what about the big one under the sink? do you need to take apart the whole cabinet?

I think you pretty much do have to remove the cabinet (or at least the countertop) to remove the tambour doors. Either the top or bottom channel that it slides in has to be moved, and it is held in place with a couple of rivets on the vertical aluminum supports in front. (You have to slide the laminate out to reveal the rivets and you have to remove the countertop to slide the laminate out.) Like most Airstream stuff, you have to remove 3-4 things to get to the one item you want to remove. (At least that's been my experience.)

ahh..that explains it. Its one of those things...hard to figure out what's holding it together, just by lookin' at it. can't see where the fasteners are!

so they're hiding behind the vertical laminate trim-strips. hmmm....I wonder if you could pry those out, if you were careful, without snaping one in half. probably not.

But the door under the stove: that shouldn't be too hard, then? I understand that removing the stove/oven isn't very difficult.

on edit: oops, just looked at your pics of the galley again; I see that the vertical supports along side the stove go all the way up to the counter top, too.

Thanks for the warning... I have found that removing something means everything with every repair... LOL! Oh, well... It has to be done. Be safe on the road guys!
