Had water leak in 86 excela. Leaking right where water comes from pump. Replaced drain valve & "T" connection next to leak & connected to pipe leading away. That solved the leak. My problem now is that the drain valve cannot be shut off. During assembly I checked the valve by blowing through it. When valve is shut cannot blow through it. When I install into the system you cannot completely shut off the drain no matter which way you turn valve. Got the connections and directions from A/S tech. On the valve there is an arrow showing water flow. When he showed me how to install it the flow was against the arrow. I questioned it but he did not expand. Due to the lack of space I installed it as he suggested. It could not be shut off. Took first valve back & got another but with same results. I'm not sure I have enough room to reverse the valve. Suggestions??
Thanks for the replies.
There is enough room to rotate the valve the way I've had it installed. It's only about a 99 degree travel. Just talked with the a/s tech & discussed the fact that we are going against the arrow which I assume is the flow. He thinks that might be it. I don't know if this is a drain or bypass valve. I'm not sure how to tell the difference. Going to remove & try to reinstall with arrow in other direction if there is enough room.
If that doesn't work or I can't get it done, I'll be back & will post pics.
Just reversed the valve & that seems to have it fixed. Haven't let it sit overnight with some pressure but at least it's not like Niagara Falls. Should have followed my initial instincts.
