Need a second opinion on 51yr old tank

I think I read that the metal freshwater tanks that are from the 50's and early 60's are not good to use. Crud and break down inside. Is that true. I could see white crud on the inside walls.

I was thinking of filling it with water and cleaning the inside and reusing it. Opinions please

Brian

You can remove the lime with an acid cleaner but that does pose some risk of creating leaks.

The problem with older tanks is that they may develop leaks at any time and since they are difficult to remove it is often thought to be wise to replace them even if they are not currently leaking.

Thanks that is what I was thinking. You just sold me on replacement of that tank. I have one gray that will fit, but I am going to put in a second under one of the twins. I want atleast 42 gallons of fresh water.
