Unhappy Leak Under City Water Connection

Hello,

I took my (new to me) 19' 2005 Bambi CCD out for its maiden voyage last weekend. Much to my dismay I discovered a leak when the city water was connected. Specifically, there was a small consistent drip of water coming from the small light fixture just below the shore power coupling. (This is the one used to illuminate the dump valve at night.) I noted this water continued down along the side and exited at the rear of the bumper. Not heavy but just a consistent drip along the way. It was defiantly not gray water or black water. (How do I know? I caught a cup of it over night and... I sniffed it... ) I assure you it was clean ‘city’ water.

1. This only seems to occur when the trailer is hooked up to 'high' pressure city water.
2. When using the internal water supply and the pump is on -- the pump does NOT cycle - So no loss of pressure in the internal system.
3. Its not running down the outside of the trailer... (Obviously it is on the inside somewhere...)

It’s at the dealer now. I was just curious if any one else has seen this and knows what it is? Ideas? Is it the pressure regulator? Gremlins... bad karma…

Do I need to worry about the floor boards or mold?

What ever it is.... you need to track it down. Over time it will get worse and eventually you may have moisture issues - but based on the volume you described - it'll dry out this time, with no harm done.

Anyone have any ideas to track the leak?

JDL,

The only useful piece of information that I received from the dealer where I purchased my CCD was this:" the city water inlet fixtures are prone to leak".

Everything else that they told me proved to be BS. Mine has not leaked yet, but I would suggest getting a new one from the factory under warranty , or having your dealer replace it PRONTO!

BTW, are you using a pressure regulator at your supply spigot that is set between 40-50 psi? If not, the high water pressure from the tap might be adding to the problem.

Hey Lewster,

Thanks!

I suspect this has been going on for some time. I do not think the previous owner knew about it.

Its in the shop. I should know more this week. I told them to check for mold etc..

I did not use a pressure regulator at the supply spigot that is set between 40-50 psi. Per the manual they have one that is internal for the trailer? I guess I will need to get one?

Hi JDL--A pressure regulator (Marshall Brass $8 at WalMart) at the supply spigot will also protect your hose, and minimize leaks in all connections up to your A/S.--Frank S

The old style water pressure regulator in my '79 Excella dumps pressure (and water) overboard through a hose if the supply pressure is too great. I, too, use an external regulator bought at Wal-Mart just to stop the pressure dumping (and the puddle under the trailer).

I wonder if that's what you're seeing on your 2005?

Just another thought, in my current trailer I also had a drip in the same area when under city pressure. It ended up being a water heater connection that can be tightened by hand. I had the trailer up at the dealers hooked into water at the time. It was one of those screw connectors and once we got our hand into the water heater access (where the bypass valves were), we found the wet spot on the floor and right above it was a not tight enough connection. Just a little twist and all was well.

Thank you all for the replies.

Took it the dealer. He could not find anything wrong. I had them replace the city water connection just in case.

Also bought a pressure regualtor at camping world with a gauge.

I suspect the water pressure at camp was just too high for the internal regulator.

We had a similar leak on our 2005 19' CCD. It turned out being the City Water Connection. Once it was replaced it hasn't leaked.
