When it started to get cold I started to fill the interior tank so my hose won't freeze. The water works fine and the pressure is good but the pump is really loud. Is this common? Is there a quieter pump on the market?

My pump is only on when using water from the tank and I don't really notice it then.

You may have air in the lines. Let the pump run for a few minutes without shutting it off to bleed the lines. The stock Airtream water pump should emit a mild rumble when running.

Yup, mine is terrible. However, I have used some foam pipe insulation for the various loose pipes rattling around and this has decreased the noise considerably. I am installing a SHURflo 182-200 Pre-Pressurized Accumulator Tank in the line as well, am told this reduces some of the cycling and noise.

I suspect the cycling is dirt or foreign material in the line, but doubt this contributes to the noise.

Oh well....

Check to see if your pump is connected directly to PEX tubing. If so go to your local hardware and buy a 20" hose and install it between the pump and the PEX on the out-going side. If you read Shur Flo manual it says not to connect pump directly to hard tubing, a thing called " water hammer" happens and the soft hose will absorb it

The water pump in my Safari was ok but the pipes were rattling against something underneath and I was not going too remove the belly pan in order to find the source. I stuffed in an accumulator tank from Home Depot. Accumulator tanks are like batteries. One can always use more capacity once you become familiar with the possibilities. The SHURflo works nicely but the beast from Home Depot is better. I stuffed it up under the sink. Jim

I replaced my noisy cheap knocking factory pump with a Shurflo Revolution.More water pressure and quiet.About $100 and 15 mins.No expansion tank needed for me.

Yeah, no air in the lines. And like I said, pressure is good and all works well. But man, this thing is noisy and does rattle some pipes.

One thing I would check for is the mounting of the motor should be a spongy rubber to absorb the vibration from the motor. Simple fix, good luck.

I agree. Mine is on carpet. It is very quiet.

Yes, that is the pressure thing. I think installing this when I pull the pump out and remount it after cleaning, will reduce the cycling problem and allow the pump to run for longer cycles during water use,e.g., during a shower.
Once installed, I will report back.

Water pump should be mounted on rubber cushions/mounts. Those cushions should absorb the noise you're talking about.

Check mounting screws for proper tightness (not too terribly tight) and cushions for being smashed (due to over-tightened screws).

The standard pump from Airstream is a piece of crap. It is noisy no matter how you mount or even if you use the accumulator. At least, mine was.

I replaced it with the ShurFlo Revolution and never looked back. It is a bypass pump and runs much quieter, has more pressure, and pumps at a higher volume.

If you mount it on carpet and insulate some of the pipes you can still hear it run but it is many times quieter.

Which one, there seems to be a few different models called Revolution.

In my 2015 16' Sport I was shocked by how loud the water pump was. I quickly discovered that it had been installed so that it was in direct contact with the fresh water tank. This means that whenever it comes on it bangs agains the side of the tank like a big drum! I moved it over a bit and padded it with some foam, which has helped, but I agree with RVDreamer, it's still ridiculously loud.

I'm shopping for something quieter and would also be very interested in which model of the Shurflo Revolution you got. Thanks!

I have a new (5 months old) Flying Cloud and we have tried the water pump once. It came one every single time we opened a faucet and the noise was not pleasant. Since we were at a camp that had a few water sources to fill your buckets, we were supposed to use our water pump. Since it was late in the season and I was close to the water source, I simply attached a "Y" and ran two hoses from one end to my rig, thus eliminating the need for the water pump while still allowing others to use the water source. Fortunately, there were no campers nearby so it never became an issue. Strangely, everyone else in the camp was doing the same thing. If I were to do more dry camping, I might look into some of the suggestions above since the pump is noisy.

We find the Shur Flo pumps to be very inconsistent in noise level. Some are quite good and others are terrible. On about half of the Airstreams we deliver we change the pump to a Flojet Quad valve pump. This pump is much quieter. It also has a bypass valve in it so at partial water flows the pump runs continuously and delivers smooth pressure output. It is by far the easiest fix for a loud pump.
