Inlet Regulator Leak for a Newbie

I am the new owner of an 06 28' Classic and it appears I have a long time leak. Water dripping from the bottom of the supply/black flush box. Regulator is white plastic and appears pretty elderly. There are three screws that hold what I am assuming is the access plate and they are rust froze. Yukey place to try to work in. . Will use Dremel tool cutter to clip the heads off and deal with the studs afterward...but I want to make darn sure of where I am going. The black flush fitting is on the panel also. Am I headed in the right direction on accessing this?

update...

Oli soak on threads worked and was able to get the screws out of the plate ajecent to inlet regulator.. Not enough slack in black flush hose to get the plate out of the way. Removed the two screws holding on the black flush mount to the plate....no slack in hose or does it appear to me to be a way to detach fitting from end of black flush hose....Help?

A picture would help. My 2001 has a brass regulator on the black tank flush line. I tried to take it off, but it just spins. The hose (probably PEX pipe) on mine ends up in the lavatory cabinet in the bathroom where it connects to a white plastic vacuum break/check valve before looping back down through the floor to go into the side of the black tank. Check under your lavatory to see if yours is the same. If so you may be able to disconnect it under the lavatory and pull it through or have a helper hold the PEX while you try to un-thread it from the water cabinet outside.

Thank you so much Al and Missy. Looks like your advise on this is the only thing that makes sense. Soon as I hear back from you I will tear into this....

Unfortunately I misunderstood your question. The white plastic fitting is the fresh water inlet, not the black tank flush, which is how I responded. The fresh water inlet has a regulator somewhere but I have never seen it. It may be part of the inlet fitting. The owners manual has a drawing of the plumbing that will help you locate the problem. If you don’t have one, go to the Airstream website and click on service. There you will find a manuals tab. Find and download your manual.

I looked in my manual. It appears that the regulator is part of the inlet fitting,

If it’s like my 2007 Classic water connection and black tank flush gain access from side go behind regulator connection and pecks fitting unscrews without difficulty other than sheet metal edges.

Had to shut down yesterday to secure for the (nothing) inbound storm. Back to this headache. I don't think anyone has understood what I am up against..... The ONLY reason I am having to remove the black flush inlet fitting is that is is SMACK DAB in the middle of the plate that has to be removed to access the back side city water/pressure regulator unit from what I can see.

There is nothing in the owners that shows how to access the backside of the black flush to disconnect the thing to get it out of the way so I can remove the plate and the only thing the parts manual shows is the number (601392-04 Waterfill, Chrome) I can get to the backside of the city water inlet/pressure. ONCE I GET THE PLATE OUT OF THE WAY. (praying that it is where the leak is). THE BLACK FLUSH INLET has to come off to get the access plate out of the way...Does this need to be unhooked from the check valve in the bathroom cabinet or does the fitting itself unscrew the end of the line?

When I reread the above, my apologies to any any and all I may have offended with the above. Been a frustrating couple of days/months and my above post came across like an asshole, which I am not. Transitioning to a full timer and the the load endless it seams.

Soo...Seems like with the thousands of these that have been built, at least one of the 300 viewers would have been here before and would take a moment to help, but it is not to be...I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks again.

So I didn't misunderstand your problem . I first thought you were trying to disconnect the black tank flush line. On re-reading I thought you were trying to disconnect the regulator. Now I understand I was right the first time so my first reply may be correct after all.

You are having the same problem I am, but for a different reason. I want to disconnect the black tank flush line because it appears to be loose and I'm afraid it might be leaking if I use it.

Were you unable to disconnect the PEX line from the anti-siphon valve you pictured under the sink, or did it not help?

BTW, if you do disconnect it, you might want to make a modification. That valve has the potential to release black tank odors into the inside if the vent fans pull a vacuum on the trailer. Several people have replaced it with an elbow. An anti-siphon valve can be placed on the outside if you are concerned about not having one.

Another thought. Have you tried to remove the screw at the top left of your picture and the hinge screws that, I think, go into the flange on the bottom of the partition the fittings are mounted to? Like yours, my water box is rusting and I was looking to see how hard it would be to get it out and replace it with the stainless version or re-paint it. My trailer is not here at the house so I am going from memory.

Hey Al, Lol Right on both accounts. My regulator is leaking and to get to the backside of it, the plate has to come off that the inlet fitting for the black tank is mounted on. (See above linked pic) The only place that you can get to it to unhook is at the check valve end. My sis held her hand on it this morning while i wiggled the inlet fitting and I know now which one it is. Will keep you posted on how I come out.... Thanks, Steve

I wish you success, but it may turn out to be harder than we think. Here is a link to the stainless upgrade I am considering. It looks like it is a welded or riveted assembly, so the panel you want to remove may not be removable. You may have to drop the whole compartment which involves pulling the door.

It’s like my 2007.

The panel that has the black tank flush connection, remove those screws and possibly any screws that hold the flush head in place. Remove panel as I remember.

That gains access to water connection fitting behind the regulator.

Keep bandaids handy.

Thanks Al and GC, LOL In my case, if you are dumb you gotta be tough. The plate just rotates around and there it is, access to the back of the regulator. I had stuck a long screw back in the hole early on and never really went back to see what could be done with the plate....When the question of how to get slack in the black flush inlet line came up, I ran with it sigh...I should know better.

Anyways....Appears it is the regulator leaking. Will get another on the way and get it in. Leave everything apart till i get it dried up, scraped and painted. The metal is not in too bad of a shape.

I really appreciate the help in getting this figured out. Thanks again.

I think the metal panel that the black tank flush goes through must be removed to get access to the back of the regulator/inlet. Disconnect the black tank flush pipe first to gain access from the side.
