How to disassemble a drain valve
I have the standard red-handled drain valves in my Globetrotter.
The drain valve for the trailer fresh water system has a leak that causes a persistent drip at the outside drain tube, but also causes the water pump to cycle every couple of minutes.
I've removed the handle and the 13/16 nut that holds the stem packing, but I'm stumped about how to get the stem out. Basically, I'm afraid I'll damage the valve body.
There is a 1 1/2 hex shape at the top of the valve body, but it is either part of the valve body casting, or is frozen due to age.
Any suggestions about removing the stem would be greatly appreciated.
