help w/ tnk drain

I have a 2007 safari 23 ft and have never used the water tank (owned 2 years),I need to boondock next week and the drain plug is "frozen" open. since it is plastic i don't want to torque too hard. Is there a way to take it out easily?or anything else . thanks

Try pushing on it slightly and turning clockwise. Jim

The probable Chinese producer of those valves at that time made them too tight. I needed a pliers to turn mine when new, and it never got better. Surprised it didn't break. The newer ones seem to be better. Try some penetrating lube or silicon spray on it.

My Safari's drain valve has to make a half turn, from open to close. I cannot turn it using my fingers, so I made a wrench for the tank drain valve. I cut a 1/4" x 3/4" aluminum bar about 5" to 6" long, short enough to rotate the valve in the limited space but long enough for me to get a grip. I cut a slot centered in one end of the bar, the length x width to match thumb turn on the valve. Now it is easy to turn, using the wrench. But it's still hard to reach it behind the wheel.

if you are talking about the fresh water holding tank and not the water system drains I did this. I took a 3/16 x 2 in. eye bolt and hammered the eye to just fit over the Tee handle. Remove the tire and with vise grip close the eye on the Tee handle. Now I can reach behind the tire and easily open or close the valve with this handle.

If your valve is currently open make sure you position the Tee so you can close the valve once installed because it would be hard to change once on.

For a quick fix, fit a suitable hose over the open end, make it removable yet secure, and plug it.
