Help - trying to put bleach in fresh water tank

I have a 2015 27FB FC that I am trying to clean fresh water tank with a little bleach. Can't figure how to get bleach in FW tank without spilling it?

Use a dedicated funnel. Do not reuse for any other chemicals.

Find at hardware or big box store probably like for adding engine oil with a bend in the bottom part so it can be nearly vertical while the tip is in the tank.

A water bottle will also work. The standard bottled water bottle, that is, as in a Dasani, Aquafina, Crystal Geyser, etc.

I filled it with the proper amount of bleach, added some water, mixed it and poured it into the opening. The mouth of the bottle should fit perfectly into the fresh water filler opening.

I have a dedicated small long neck blue plastic funnel for the water tank. The neck is about 10 inches long. Available from wallyworld.

I find water bottlees are good for it too.

I always make sure though that when I carry bleach in a water bottle, I clearly mark the bottle "Bleach - don't drink!" with a sharpie!

Otherwise, with my luck, it would happen!

Rather than mess with pouring liquid bleach, you can buy bleach tablets in that section of your grocer or WalMart.

Just drop a couple in a half tank or so of water, sanitize as usual.

I use a plastic Turkey Baster. Comes in handy for adding distilled water to your batteries too.

That is what I do, then recycle the bottle

Simple, just use a measuring cup, and pour it into the hose before you turn onthe water to fill the tank...

For whatever it's worth

I cut the bottom out of a plastic water bottle and could pour the bleach in that end and then was able to squeeze and bend the bottle enough for the bleach to flow through.

This is the best funnel I have found for filling the fresh water tank: http://www.lubeq.com/products/02562
Amazon sells it but it is quite pricey when shipping is included.

The spout unscrews from the body and you can store both in a 1 gallon zip-lock bag. This is a big funnel with great flow.

You need to remove the down-turned bill as well as trim a bit of the spout to fit your intake.

When trimmed properly, the spout fits nice and snug in the tank intake to make it free standing. This allows me to use both hands to heft up a 5 gallon Coleman camping jug and pour it in without needing a second person to steady the funnel.

Also comes with the metal filter screen to keep those pesky bugs from going down the drain as they inevitably swarm around you when your hands are tied up.

I use a long spout watering can. Pour the right amount of bleach in and fill with water so you aren't pouring full strength bleach in (can get your clothes!) Works great for me!

I use the fresh water hose that I will use to fill the tank after the bleach is put in. Empty the water from the hose if there is any in it. Hook the hose to the water supply but don't turn it on.

Pour the bleach into the end of the hose where the water will come out. Then put that end of the hose into the tank fill port. Turn on the water.

The fresh water will flush the bleach into the tank and by the time the tank is full of water, the hose will be totally rinsed.

Here are some reference for you for sanitizing: 1 tablespoon per 1 gallon.

1 tablespoon = 0.5 oz.

So for my 22 gallon fresh tank, I need 11 ounces of bleach.

1976 AS has drop down door for water fill so very easy to fill and add bleach. I measure bleach in measuring cup, pour in imed. put hose in to flush down and fill tank. I don't mix water and bleach. I have done this way for yrs. no bottles or funnels

Why not sanitize the hoses at the same time?
I connect all of my water hoses together then flush them with fresh water.
Then I disconnect from the hose bib and drain the hose onto the ground, not into the tank.
Then I put one end into the tank filler tube, then pour in the appropriate quantity of bleach into the hose just before connecting it to the hose bib. Full strength bleach goes through the hose as it goes toward the tank.
I've been doing it this way for 20+years.

Why not pour strait bleach into tank and have hose turned on to imed. fill with water? I have done this way for 39 yrs. w/out any prob. or harm.Only dif. is 1976 AS has drop down door so no delay hooking up hose. Bleach won't harm out side if spilled as I mix 1/2 bleach 1/2 water in spray bottle to spray mold that grows panels upper and lower belt line on rear and rear sides then wash trailer. Bill

Question - I like the idea of putting bleach directly in the hose except I would think you would have to remove the in line H2O filter 1st & then put back on before going into FW tank?

Straight, undiluted, bleach might damage your hose, and certainly your water filter.

Dropping a bleach tablet or two in thru the fresh water fill works great.

No muss, no fuss.
