Cool grey pipe connector leaking

My 34' 1988 Excella was purchased last year and has been a joy!
we have made some minor renovations and hit the road for some long weekends, getting ready for extended traveling.

I found a leak in a tee fitting clustered with 3 other tees and valves next too the fresh water fill tube. This junction of pipes occurs in the closet next to the kitchen and is also accessible form under the kitchen cabinet. A very tight spot either way!

Can these crimps be repaired or will I have to cut out the leak? Then what is the procedure to make the patch?

Thanks,
Tim

Polybutylene Pipe

Tim,
The grey pipe you speak of is called polybutylene and you can read all about it here...

Polybutylene Plumbing - What is Polybutylene?

I have the same stuff in our '87 and so far (knock on wood) it hasn't sprung any leaks.

I am not sure how to affect repairs or what fittings should be used to make a union between polybutylene and some other pipe like pex.

Hopefully somebody else will chime in and enlighten us.

Tim,
I thin I may have found a solution and fitting in case you need to cut out sections of the gray PB pipe and graft in Pex type plumbing. Take a look here and you can see fittings for transitioning from grey PB to Pex...

Flair-It.com - Transition Fittings, Swivel Couplings, Caps, Plugs, Ballcock Adapters & Garden House Fittings

Hopefully this will help.

Carl, Today I dove into the plumbing with a few PEX connectors from Lowes. They worked perfectly! If I were to do it again I would cut the furnace ducts and patch them back for access. I had to thread them back through the cabinets, what a pain.

So thans again for the PEX idea, it is the way to go.

Tim,
I am glad to hear you got your drips taken care of. Isn't plumbing always and adventure? Whether it is in your home or trailer it's never really fun. My wife loves being my "plumber's assistant" when we are working on the pipes and drains.

Thats funny Carl, I did have my wife help me with the project. She is a DOLL!

I am resolved to strip the clear coat off the Excella. It is 'blotchy' and I wish to clean up the exterior appearance. Have you had the pleasure of preforming this task? Can Removall 220 only be bought online? Please tell me of your experience. I feel like we have the same type of unit and would value your input. Hope I am not asking too much, I am a nubie!

Regards,
Tim

Wink I Whimped Out

Tim,
There were some burnt spots on our roof and endcaps when we got our '87 and the finish was a little dull. So I took the easy way out and took it to P & S Travel Trailer Service in Helena, OH and let the professionals tackle the job. This year, on a whim, I polished the 30 pound propane cylinders and that job convinced me that I had made the right move by letting P & S do the trailer. 34' is a LOT of surface area to cover.

Take a stroll through the polishing forum and I am sure you will find some answers to your questions.

PS - You can never ask too many questions. So ask away...

Carl, I have found some lens to replace the back up and turn signals, but I am looking for those red and amber running lights. The OM was Signal Stat and the part was 9007. Lights are good I just need lens, Or maybe it es better to replace complete assembly.
Any thoughts or direction? We sure are a long way form plumbing!

Tim,
I replaced the marker lights becuase the white plastic bases were about shot, the lenses were fine. I would let you have them, but they got tossed.

Lots of folks here replace all their tail and marker lights with LEDs. I went with the double bulls eye from Grote (part #9196). The marker lights can be had at most any auto parts store. If yours are anything like mine you will not be able to find a direct replacement. Ours had a hot wire (red) and a ground wire (white). Most new lights ground through the trailer body/mounting screw. What I did on ours was to put shrink wrap around ground wire terminal and tuck it behind the new lamps. You can read about it here...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f447...lla-39116.html

I crimped a female bullet connector on the single black wire and connected it to the hot lead from the trailer. Note there is no ground wire as it is tucked behind the new light. Here is what the finsihed installation looks like...

Polybutylene Pipes in the 88

So from reading these posts the gray freshwater lines in the 88 are polybutylene......... I think!

I have a shut off valve going to the toilet that will not shut off and need replaced.

From the posts I read I can use a Pex conversion to replace the valve. Am I correct?

Also can I find these at one of the Big Box hardware stores or do I need to order on line?

Thanks again!!!

Ed,
Somebody on here just used a polybutylene to Pex union and for the life of me I can't remember the post. I will keep looking for it. But yes, the union fitting you are looking for can be obtained at the big box stores or a plumbing supply house.

PS - DAHHHHH it was this thread. The links I posted above take you to the unions you will need.

Ed, I found the pex connectors at Lowes, they worked great. I took some tubing there with me for fitting. When I finished the repair the fittings leaked for a second but stopped immediatly and I have not seen a leak since. I suppose pressure is was seals them.
