Omega man,
There are many threads about FW tanks leaking from the water line attachment fitting to the tank.
According to others who dropped their tank themselves it appears the common cause is over tightening of fitting to the tank. This seems to be a manufacturing defect as the tanks themselves are designed for rugged industrial use in harsh environments.

Ameri-Kart supplies the tanks to Airstream out Indiana and they a very reputable firm.
The tanks are Low Density Poly Ethylene (LDPE). This kind of plastic can only be properly repaired by thermal welding that either use a special plastic hot glue gun, a high speed 15,000 RPM tool or a chemical weld that will melt bond the plastic together. see the video below

Some folks have had success using other methods. But I doubt that repairs will last if the plastic is not welded together.
I have a 2010 28' Flying Cloud that just sprang a leak where the fresh water suction line attaches to the tank. So what you see in my post is a result of research in this forum and online.
Bottom line, you have a couple of choices; either have the tank repaired or replace it with a new through an Airstream dealer as Ameri-Kart will sell direct to the public.
Below is an excellent post showing a replacement of a 2010 28' Flying Cloud fresh water tank.

In my view this is a common enough problem that it could be defined as a manufacturing defect and certainly subject to warranty repair by Airstream.
