Fresh water tank fill

I have a 2007 31' Classic Ltd. When I try to fill the fresh water tank the water immediately backs up and spews out of the filler spout. I took it to Rod at C&G Trailer in Bellflower CA and he suggested using a 12" filler attachment to the hose. This didn't make any difference nor did using a longer attachment. I ran a small hose down the filler pipe and it seems to be clear.
Can anyone offer some help?

Could the tank be already full?

Moosetags might have it... If your pump doesn't have backflow protection on it, water from a hookup with a white hose CAN flow back through the pump into the white tank.

So first thing to try when you're not hooked up to city water is to turn on the pump and run water into the sink. If it just keeps running and running you've got a full or at least partly full tank.

I've seen other posters say that you can use the pump to boost your pressure if you're at a campsight with water that has low pressure... how this would work WITHOUT water in the white tank is a mystery to me.

So is it possible that Airstream deliberately DOESN'T have backflow protection from the pump to the white tank?

HM...

Now if you can ascertain that your tank is empty, it's likely that your filler tube is messed up. The one I sold GT1963 actually had a hole IN the pipe, and had apparently been twisted badly on installation.

My 1994 Excella has a small plastic plug right where you fill the tank. I have to take it out to fill the tank otherwise the air pressure builds up and water spews back out. This seems overly simple and I presume you already know this but hey-you never know.

Yeah, what Old Fulica said. This is an air vent. It allows the air to that is displaced by the water to escape. The prevents pressure build up that forces the water out the fill tube.
I fulltimed for 6 months filling my fresh water tank with a trickle before I learned of this magical device.
