Fresh water fill

I installed my fresh water tank today.

Why do these things take all day....?

I used a marine deck fill for the fresh tank water fill. It needs a 1-1/2" I.D. hose.

I ended up getting a poly hose with the right diameter but it does not curve very wall at all. So I ended up adding a couple of right angles which works, but there must be a better way. What kind of flexible non-kinking inlet hose should I be looking for?

On a side note, I was able to add two three-way selector vavles to the tank. One allows me to fill the tank from the city water inlet. The other connected the input of the pump to either the tank or a hose connection for winterizing. That turned out nicely.

Tim, What you've done looks pretty good, not sure I'd sweat it unless it just fills too slow. If you want to take out the 90s you could use a longer tube and make a loop like you have in the right hand photo. Just place the loop in a horizontal configuration to aid in flow. I assume this is all hidden.

Looks like you did the best you could with what you had to work with. Those angles and that distance elbows are about it. Nice work on the fill from city water. I wish they would do that from the factory. AS soon as the warrenty expires that are a few modifications I want to make. That is one of them.

Hi Tim-

I will be starting the Fresh water tank on the Trade Wind today myself. Looks like you have it a bit easier than I will, the tank is on the curb side so I need to run a fill line around the back through the bath. But there is a cover-up on the skin there, so some PO must have at one time had a filler there. Not sure if I want to do that.

Looks pretty good. If it fills slow you may try using 1 1/2 or 11/4 flexible PVC pipe. It is found where they sell for pools and spas and is usually sold in 3' sections or 50' rolls. The joints are cemented with regular PVC cement. If you need more flex than what it normally has you can warm it up and it gets very pliable. You would probably need to still make a loop to make the tight turns but you can try and do it warm and hold it till it cools or have someone spray it with water while you hold it in place.

It actually fills fine. Next time though I'd get the inlet with the angle instead of the straight pipe. With the straight pipe inlet water spashes back out. I guess I could just tip the front of the trailer up a bit.

Rick, why not just put the inlet near the tank? You don't want it on the curb side?

Here's a photo of the water inlet and vent above it. The patch below is where the original water spigot for the pressurized system was. One of many leaks so out it came.
