Flex hose needed on new city water inlet/pressure regulator?
Replacing leaking Shurflo inlet and pressure regulator and directions call for 1 ft of high pressure flex hose between part and rigid plumbing. Original (2005) did not have flex hose, pex was connected directly to the unit. Directions say rigid pipe may make noise and cause unit to crack from vibration. Any thoughts on this?
Also, what type of caulk should I use to seal flange on outside?

I don't know the answer, however, I'm watching your topic with interest. Hopefully someone with the answer will respond soon.

Driftwood,
I don't have info on the flexible pipe, but I would would use the following 3M gasket material from McMaster Carr for replacements like this. It is very easy to cut this material to exact size using ordinary scissors. It is very close to the factory gasket material used by Airstream on the water inlet and other exterior parts.

I replaced mine about 2 years ago. The original installation did not have a flex hose (and it lasted 15 years) and the instructions for the replacement did not mention flex hose. Something new I guess.

Have you considered calling Shurflo and asking Why? i can't think of a reason from a plumbing standpoint.

I have never heard that one. Airstream has never used flexible hose on shuffling regulator that I am aware of. Normally the pump would cause the lines to vibrate ,it is recommended using flexible hoe on both sides of pump.

I think I will just put it back as it was... I can barely reach it now from under the sink, and would have to remove the sink and cabinet to put the flex hose on.
It sort of makes sense that connecting a fixed pipe to it might could stress the plastic regulator due to vibration while travelling, but seems like the same logic would apply to other plumbing connections as well....

Flex hose
I know this post is from a while back but we got installed some flex hose in our Airstream after our water inlet kept on leaking after replacing it about 5 times. It hasn't leaked since! We also installed cut plastic rectangular cup to put in the wall gap with an electronic leak sensor that makes a horrible noise when it gets wet so we know if any future leaks come to be.

What was the source of your flex hose? Is it still not leaking?

Hello! We just got our flexible hose at a hardware store. It is the kind of hose that you see frequently connected to residential toilets.

Driftwood, this is silly stuff. I have a 2006 and have replaced my inlet. It was an easy thing to do. In mine, I had to remove the back panel in my closet and everything was easily accessible. I had a simple twist off connection on the back, I undid it, removed the regulator, replaced the regulator and it was all good.
If you are experiencing a lot of noise from your pump/water hose then the advice they give might be worth following. I never had that issue. I did have an issue with a different SOB trailer and I did change things around. So... I would say, if you have been fine before, why make a big change?
The regulator was easy to find, but mine was a challenge to remove since all of the original putty they used was pretty much dried up. Be careful and take your time.
