Fallen fresh water tank

I was inspecting under my 2016 FC 26u. Noticed odd shaped, bulging under fresh water tank. Like it was pregnant. Crawled under and sure enough looks like the full tank has fallen onto the underbelly pan! Bought this new, 2 months ago. More than a little disappointed with this kind of major issue!! Never been off road, not from road debris, no scrape marks. Belly pan is bending, pulling rivets. Looks like a thanksgiving turkey foil pan with a bowling ball inside, side are buckling from the stress. Pumped it dry.

Anyone else encountered this?

I hope Airstream is embarrased.

Be sure not to fill water tank with a hose end stuck in fill hole. I over- filled and pressurized my fresh water tank caused a similar problem. Vent could not release enough before tank pressurized and belly bolts pulled out. Looked almost like this. I over filled it- Airstream over tightened and stripped threads out at assembly. The combination of two were disaster! My wife and I pulled and repaired ourselves in a day with larger 3/8 inch bolts and redesigned straps for a total of $60 Click image for larger version

Never had anything newer than a 79 and back then these were BULLET PROOF! I am saddened by all the poor workmanship I see on this forum in the past year!

Totally not acceptable and didn't see problems like this in the older models and newer ones too many incidents. I am on an all summer trip with a new 26u, I had better go take a peek at mine.

Hi, although my tank is in a plastic box with metal straps, my tank got ballooned because I wasn't watching it being filled. No real damage happened, but my tank does hang down when full. I was going to add support brackets, but at this time I never did.

Looks like our plastic tank cover and straps (25 RB) when I stuck our big garden hose in the fill nozzle, turned the water wide open, and walked off doing something else. No air escape, it shot the hose out and water followed several foot geyser when full. Stupid on my part, must have substantial air release when filling.

The tank pan is fastened to frame with 5/16 self tapping bolts ,every 6-8 inches around perimeter. The plastic tank rests on styrofoam inside that galvanized pan. The tank pan will bow down with a full tank of water.

Is the buckle on the front side of the tank?
I would inspect the bolts to see if they are loose first.

This is disturbing. Sticking a hose into the filler pipe is the normal way of filling a tank. We shouldn't have to worry about slow venting or over filling. The water tank installation and over all design should allow for this.

I am taking our 2013 30' International in for water tank problem as well. It has a leak somewhere and holds only about 3/8 full of water.
The also neglected to install the rubber gasket behind the right front marker light and now I have the beginnings of a serious corrosion problem.
And the overhead galley storage cabinet is lose and bounces up and down. I noticed it recently as I pushed up on it for some odd reason. I have had to take this unit back to Jackson Center for one thing or another every year since we bought it.
Additionally I had to replace the Hot Water Heater as well. It had a faulty weld at one of the fittings and began leaking. At first I thought it was condensation from the fridge until it really began to leak. Atwood didn't want to to do anything about it since it was out of warranty and they were doubtful looking at the pictures I sent them of the lousy welds . So I yanked the damn thing out and drove it their Elkhart factory and shamed them into giving me a new one.

Just be careful of high pressure city water. It will blow up an unvented container in a heartbeat. I use a screw on filler tube that is vented and you can easily see the potential damage possibilities when it is approaching full and starts to spew out. Be sure a use low flow especially if you are going to do something else while it is filling.

oh no, so sorry to see this happen to you. It is such a pain to bring AS back for repairs when brand new, or any time for that matter.

There should be a warning in the owner's manual. If not, this is an oversight which should be corrected. There's no pressure regulator when filling tnis tank as there is for the shore water hookup. Be careful!

When I over-pressurized our tank I put a large diameter hose that we use for gardens in the filler neck that allowed almost no air to escape, and then turned on the city supplied water near full volume.

Lesson learned and should know better. An RV potable water hose is smaller and should cause no problem. High volume and pressure water delivery could still be an issue so one should be careful that the full tank of air (the tank is not really empty) can be pushed out easily.

City water pressure is usually 50PSI. The hose stuck loosely into the filler tube will blow out with the water as the tank gets over filled to the top. If the system can't handle 50 PSI pressure how in the world does it hold up a tank weighing over 300 LBS when it is full.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry you are having a baptism by water . . .

Have you spoke with the dealer?

A total drag that you should have to take care of this!

Good luck,

Peter

I do not believe it is a structural issue unless the bolts are loose. It appears that it has hit something in the delivery process or unloading off of the transport.
When the tank is full of 40 gallons of water it will bow down.
My thoughts.
