69 water tank and pump

I'm just getting started on my rebuild and am trying to move from the front to the rear and have a few questions.
Is the plastic water tank worth saving if it doesn't leak or does it need to be upgraded to a newer plastic. Same question with the pump. Not sure if it works so if i need to save it what is the best way to test it? Also under my sink i have a small chrome canister with copper lines that have been cut off. It is next to my heater. Is it a filter? Last one- how do i get the external water cap off? When i put a rag and a crescent on it it doesn't budge.

Welcome.....Sounds like a project. Go at it slow and sure. The caps are notorious for that problem. I resort to PB Blaster and separately CLR cleaned and lime dissolver. The old metal tanks are junk,,,and you never know what has grown inside them over the years. A cheap fix is a new ABS type....I like the Valtera types better than the white poly ones. The canister sounds like a water filter....WE LOVE PICTURES!

You say the original water tank is plastic and does not leak. I would continue to use it then. The old PAR pumps were first class back in the day, but in my opinion the new pumps are superior in water pressure and delivery. I would plan on a replacement for it. The chrome canister is probably a water filter for the cold water line or a separate tap. The old cartridges are expensive, even if you can find them. I would just eliminate it if it were my rig.

None that I know of, if it was originally a fresh water tank.
