I forget the type of plastic, but several vendors on ebay (search rv water tank) sell tanks for under 75 bucks that should fit. Not worth the water damage, if its cracking the plastic is brittle anyway.
this is the tank (and vendor) we bought for our 69
no problem, our tank was missing, but the idea of drinking out of a tank that may have had stuff sitting in it for up to 50 years (since they are never really totally empty and dry) is not real great. Those tanks have 3 options for output, so you can put it just about any direction.
Those are good tanks, but make sure it will fit where you can get the inlet to work.
I did fix some cracks in mine with a repair kit for plastic rads. Get it in an auto store.
The repair has held up for years. You can clean the tank out with bleach and rinse clean.
Thanks soooo much for this advise. I am leaving for Yosemite in the morning and discovered today that my fresh water tank was cracked. Your automotive parts store radiator tank repair kit did the trick. Don't think I'll be consuming that water anytime soon, but it is good for everything else.
