Once again, I appreciate this HUGE source of information! I'm completely renovating a '73 Argosy 26', will be adding a ZD awning, and am installing the brackets in the positions left by the PO (which leaked). I'll strenghthen and leakproof the backing plates while interior walls are off. Got to thinking, with my former camper, and once the awning was deployed (neither an Argosy/AS nor a ZD), I enjoyed being able to remove the support arms from the bases so as not to have a 45 degree obstacle fore and aft. Will this work with a ZD? I'm thinking a pull pin in the lower bracket instead of a bolt, and maybe purchase a set of lower brackets to use as feet for the support arms, and then position them vertically and stake. I just want to find out from the vast experience here if the ZD geometry will allow this. (BTW, I will be posting pics as I can.)

Zip Dee awnings are the finest made (I am not a rep),one learns to paying attention when they are deployed. We've hung warning tape, towels, etc. over the arms and STILL bumped into them! After 20 years of Zip Dee awnings, we've finally got used to the arms, until tomorrow, before I've had my second cup of coffee!

There are provisions available from ZD to remove the main arms and anchor them, the same as other brands.

Yes you can move the support arms out to the ground as you mentioned. Another poster has some pics of a bracket he made that he uses on the ground that the arms attach to with pins as you mentioned. Search around in the forum and you may find the post. I have lowered mine to the ground and really enjoyed them in that position. Zip Dee is the best.
