Zip Dee awning repairs

Hi all,

Sunday I opened all of the awnings on my trailer for the first time since buying it used, in December. All the small awnings worked well and they opened without problems. The main awning (about 24' long) opened very quickly and caught me off guard. It opened fully and hit the canopy on my pickup and then bounced and hit me :-). I finally got in up and secured partly open, for a few days. Closed everything up today.

The main awning has no spring tension (andit is a bear to wind it back manually, but doable),so I am assuming one of two things have happened. 1) spring tension needs adjusting or 2) spring is broken.

How do I determine which is the correct problem? If the spring is completely shot, is the replacement 24ft long? Reason I ask is I live on the left coast.

Any comments and advise, greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It is likely that the spring is just snapped. Or it was unwound at some point and not rewound. If it is a Zip Dee they will have some instructions that they can fax or email on how to wind it. The parts are available and the spring is not the whole length of the awning, normally they are 3-4 feet.
