Zip Dee awning pull strap broke ?

My Zip Dee patio awning pull strap broke or the thread holding it together gave away. Do you have any suggestions on how to repair this without removing the awning ? Thanks Davis

We just opened the awning fully, and then I doubled over the end of the strap to give it a little more body and then just riveted it directly to the awning roller.

Davis,
Not sure but doesn't the strap fit in a slot on the rail? If that is the case it is fairly easy to purchase a replacement strap and slip it in. I know that is the case on the other brands. I have a Zip Dee on one trailer but have never messed with it.

As I understand it....your talking about the strap on the outer edge of the awning....opposite side from the rail or roller. I think you could extend the awning, take the detached strap and fold it over a couple inches for
reinforcement thickness. Then hand sew, lash, it to the outer edge of the awning material. Use good thread. Or, you could poke three or four small holes thru the folded strap and awning edge and use small rivets with washers on either side of the material for reinforcement thru those holes. You can use small machine screws with nylon lock nuts instead of rivets too.

I just replaced my pull strap a couple of weeks ago. I got the new strap from Vintage Trailers (I think). You just have to drill out 3 rivets, place the new strap over the old rivet holes, & install 3 new rivets to hold it in place. Took me about 5 minutes. The new strap was about $28 or something like that.

I talked to Zipdee and they said just rivet a new strap on to the roller. I am going to use some nylon climbing webbing, just because I have it.

there is a small lever at the front of the long roller. it tilts out a little bit to let the roller wind back up. has that been done?

Not to usurp the guru, but will the awning roller rotate if you try and turn it by hand, or is it frozen up? What I'm getting at is your return spring broken or stuck? You don't have Z locks (little levers) on the ends of the roller tube do you? I assume you have a Zipdee awning right?

A old timer AS couple told us how to repair awnings; use dental floss instead of thread.
