Question What the heck is this and how hard will it be to replace?

The PO's told me that this isn't a ZipDee awning, but an aftermarket version.

Is it a Carefree? Any ideas?

How hard is it to replace the awning fabric on these things? I'm capable of doing the sewing and have a big roll of teal and white cabana stripe outdoor fabric, but I'm just wondering about any special personality quirks.

Just came from a 1955 Yellowstone with a traditional rope-and-pole awning, so I'm excited about the self-contained type, but I have NO idea how to do it.

Thank you!

Looks to be a Carefree Awning. Fabric replacement isn't terribly difficult but dealing with the torsion springs can be hazardous. This job is not for the uninformed.

I posted my methodology a couple of years ago. I will see if I can dig it up.

This also reminds me that I still owe one of our members a part I promised him several months ago. Robert if you read this I have not forgotten about the strut and will dig it out for you ASAP.

While it may have been an after market addition, some trailers came with Carefrees from the factory. I agree it looks like a Carefree. Keep us updated on the project

Cautious

Thank you for the replies. I'm feeling even more confident that it's a Carefree.

I spoke with Marti from Marti's Awnings and she said no problem to providing a replacement for the canvas. If you guys haven't looked into her services, she's fabulous and has a great reputation.

I've read several threads about how dangerous these things can be, but I'm not clear what to look out for. I'd hate to accidentally behead myself taking off the awning canvas. That would the a perfect end to a really crappy week.

Anyone have some insight on what I should be avoiding?

Thank you!
