Tropic room install frustrations

Finally decided to install and set up the ZD Tropic Room that came with my trailer. Got as far as attempting to attaching the snap bases on the roller. Discovered that the kit came with the wrong size bases. I have 4 different sizes in my rigging box and of course none of them fit. Not to sure I will be able to find them locally. Will have to give ZD a call.

Looks nice. Never saw one before. Does it stay on once configured or do you have to snap it on each time?

It has to be removed and set up. It may end up being more trouble than it is worth. It was basically free so I thought I would give it a try.

I bought the sunshade material you got from harbor freight - I got a rivet gun and an assortment of pop rivets both steel and aluminum

Wife does not get the appeal of the sunshade concept but she forgets is burning up in afternoon sun in Florida this time last year

We have a 10x10 ez up tent but it's side panels are not breathable - blocks airflow.

I will creat points of attachment for the sunshade for both the awning alone and with the 10x10 next to awning.

So, Michael, what's the latest? Did ZD respond with help? Lin and I are interested in both the sunshade and the outside room. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Yes they did. I got everything I needed and finished the install. It might be more trouble than it is worth for short stays but for longer camp outs it will be nice to have. Bug season down here can be brutal. I got on a roll and made a separate darker sun shade that uses the same mounting points on the roller.

Excellent, glad you were able to find everything. Don't forget a photo when you get the project completed.

Years ago, we had something similar with a SOB trailer. More trouble than it was worth, and the mosquitoes found a way to get in regardless. Now we just take a REI screen room when going to bug country. The biggest issue with that was trying (unsuccessfully) to keep the spaniel from blasting through the netting when he saw a chipmunk.

I contacted Zip Dee and they tried to sell me their sun blocker. They were not receptive to any suggestion to move their product into the 21st century and include a slot for sun screens and lights. I bought plastic coated cable and turnbuckles and my plan is to stretch the cable from one end of the roller to the other, attaching on the supports and drawing it tight with the turnbuckles. There should be plenty of strength in the roller tube to handle it, and I won't have to go out an buy another sun blocker to do it.

Using snaps is an easy and inexpensive projects. The HF sun shade tarp is a near perfect budget solution for the project. It has been a worthwhile addition this summer.

I have not installed the buttons for attachment of the mesh I bought from HF - but on our last trip I attached it using a few small bungees to in part the awning and then to my 10x10 - worked fine - helped a ton!
