Tip of Awning Stick

I'm referring to the aluminum rod used to reach the awning lathers and to turn the awning wheel

Somehow I lost the little red plastic tip that goes on the end of the rod. Does anyone have an idea where replacements could be purchased? Or has anyone come up with alternative to the plastic tip?

Thanks!

I imagine Zip Dee would send you a couple, and then you could glue it on. Not sure why they don't do that.

I just wrapped some electrical tape around it. Then that came off...and I have just left it bare. Just careful to hit the loop, and not touch/scratch the trailer.

Or you can get a can of liquid electrical tape and dip the end in that multiple times until you get the thickness you desire.

I spent a couple of years being careful and putting the red tip back on every time it came off. Then one day I decided mental health was better than a red tip. I threw it away and have not thought about it since.

Zip Dee has them. We were at Alumapalooza this year and picked up several replacements.

They are not necessary. I think they are there in case you accidentally poke yourself in the eye!

You can replace it, but it will fall off again. It takes a beating on the wheel latch. I just left mine off.
However, you can look into "plastic thread protectors" at the big box store.

Heat shrink works well. Available in almost all colors. Does not come off easily.

Mine just came off while camping last week. It works fine without it! (as someone said, it's probably there for our "protection."

I received 4 from Zip Dee last year. They were terrific and responded right away. 🥰 The email address is:

Jackson Center had heavier duty black ones a few years ago. We think of it as preventing us from scratching the trailer.

I sincerely appreciate all the great suggestions. Many of which I had not thought about.

I am at the Internationally Rally in Doswell and when I saw ZipDee had a vendor booth I just asked if he happeded to have any of the red tips. He gave me one free.

And I know you don't "need" to have it but all it takes is one slip and you have a scratch on the AS. A friend of mine kiddingly said he should just take a ball peen hammer to it to minimize my worry about scratches. I told him there are plenty of scratches but I'd like to minimize the self induced ones!

Again, thanks!

If you or a friend has some Plasti-dip, just dip it a few times. My son a welder/fabricator made me a new one that is only 30 inches long and dipped the ends in plasti-dip. The shorter one is much easier to store.

I lost the plastic tip for my awning rod as well, which turned out to be a good thing. Now I use the rod as a campfire stirrer as well. The plastic tip cover was completely unnecessary for pulling down the awning strap.
