Question Snap stud head came off!

Hey, I was closing my awning today and the snap stud round "head" on one of the lower arms came off in my hand. Had to un-do the stud bolt and use a tool to pull pin out.

Seems like this is gonna happen to the other one too... Anyone run into this before? Seems kinda flimsy for something that has so much pull pressure applied to it.

Thanx, Lance

What part are you talking about? Part #7 must be aligned in the narrowest part of the part 3E-3F stud. It will fit on the wider part closer to the 3A Main Arm Tube but will not tolerate the awning being closed if in that position. I know. I broke part #7 once upon a.. I learned never to close my awning without light of some sort. Luckily our area Airstream dealer had that in stock and I was back in business in less than 24 hours.

Zip-Dee is renowned for great customer service. Give them a phone call with your desired part and I'm betting you'd have it by the middle of next week.

Part #4... the one that you use to adjust the height/extension of the awning. It pulls out and snaps back into one of four holes on the bar. The round head simply came off of the head of the pin itself.

You mention that it was difficult to pull. That shouldn't be if the tension is off. You need to relieve the force on the pin by pulling the rod out slightly before trying to lilt it.

Who won't let you?

Doesn't Zip Dee only sell thru dealers?

Our vendor members have been asked to have nice intuitive websites and not use AIR Forums non-vendor threads for advertising. Their phone numbers are very easy to come by.

We've used our Zip Dee awning 3 times and went to pull it out the 4th time today (its just over a year old) and found rear "part #7" on the photo above cracked at the rivets and ready to fall off. Seems to be a very poor quality casting, prone to breaking, especially seeing others have had this fail apparently. I'll call Zip Dee on Monday, but disappointed to say the least that such an expensive item for the AS that is so new is having problems. Looking at other awning brands, including some on other airstreams it really seams the Zip Dee arms are undersized compared to most other brands.

Thumbs up Helping hands....

These come in handy to take the tension off the support bars....

Not cheap.... but have saved more than one pinched hand.
