I have found that the upper arms, the ones that slide into the bottom parts, sometimes get dirty and "stuck" after a heavy dew. So the arms resist collapsing into each other and the geometry gets off. As you try to help the awning roll up, it is easy to push too hard and and then add additional bend to the lower arm. When this happened to me, the extra angle shortened the arm, and so the rolled-up awning would not reach its resting place.
I was able to remove the lower piece and gently, deliberately, bend it to take some of the angle out.
Look at yours -is it possible that your lower arms are sticking out just a little farther than you remember they should be?
Sorry for the long post; it may not apply, but I ran into this after my last trip.
