Replacing Awning

Greetings,

Okay, so I don't have an Airstream but I do have one of your long lost cousins, the Revcon. I bought this some time ago and it had it's awning removed. I've had to plug up the holes in the aluminum skin to keep water out. I'm beginning my quest for a new awning and have some questions.

The likely hood of finding an awning that will fit all those screw holes exactly is pretty slim. So, I'm wondering what the best route is to take before I get a new awning?

I'm assuming that all the holes will need to be sealed before installing. What would be the best way to do this?

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

How big are the holes? If they are all just screw holes, rivets would fill them. Just be sure to add some Vulkem sealant with each rivet and you should be good to go.

Should have been more descriptive. There are three or four roughly 1/4" holes for the arms. Directly above the drip rail are dozens of maybe 1/8" holes. Yes, rivets would work there without problems until I went to mount the new awning. There is a good chance that I would end up hitting one of these rivets.

Is that going to cause a problem?

Should not be a problem.

You would need to know the make of the previous awning for an exact match. My 71 had a EZ Awn. I decided to replace with a Zipdee because it has a vintage look and parts are still available. You could also rivet backing plates to the coach for a new awning.

Wait a minute!
From your description, the 1/8 in. holes are the rivet holes for the awning rail. You can use them again with a new rail...drill the holes to match. The 1/4 in. awning arm mounts are a different story. There you will have to seal and match to the new Zip Dee.

Thanks for the replys folks. I asked the previous owner what awning was on there before but he did not know. How can I tell what awning was on there?

I just took some photos to give you an idea. The first 2 photos are the upper front main arm mount. The silver piece is the rain gutter rail. I used butyl putty to seal the holes for the time being. The holes at the top of the rail go all the way across holding the awning fabric to the body. As seen in pic 3. The final photo is the rear mount.

Lumatic, forgive my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by backing plate? Rivet a plate over the existing holes and then mount the new awning?

Ultimately, I'd like to reuse the exact holes. Can anyone recommend a quality place to have this installed that's fairly close to Philadelphia?
