Removed a 1970 Zip Dee awning
of a 27'. How much do you think I saved in weight? All I know it is was a monster and I think the tube is steel. Any Ideas on weight?? Cynthia

Maybe 100 pounds.
But certainly, it's removal won't make a difference in fuel mileage.

whoa! You're not going to throw it away, are you? Even if the fabric is shot, the arms and fittings are useful to others.
As far as weight, I can just barely lift a 27' tube. I'd say it's in the vicinity of 80 lbs and the arms all together are another 40 or so.
You could get an actual answer by calling Zip Dee. They will give you a hard time, for fun, but will answer your question. That would be interesting to all of us, I'm sure. And when you find out, I'll get a moderator to edit this message to make it look like I knew what I was talking about, all along.

You can call Zip Dee and ask them what the shipping weight of a new one is (it will be in the ballpark of yours).
You can also offer your old one to me and I will weigh it and get you an exact weight.
-thomas
PS, In all seriousness, I am interested in your old one.

Andy, Didnt remove it because of fuel mileage, but while were talking fuel mileage..short of letting it sit in the drive, how can fuel mileage be increased? LOVE TO KNOW!!!!
Thanks so much..Cynthia

Cynthia.
Installing 2 gauges, can give you information, that if followed, will help.
Using a "vacuum gauge" tells you when the engine is working harder than it should.
Installing an "air speed" indicator, will tell you when to slow down or speed up, because of a head wind or tail wind.
