rear window awning; little parts

Last night I removed my rusted, *secondary support* arms from my rear awning. This is the little wire-like bar (maybe 3/8" max dia) that clips to the main arm when the awning is retracted. When the awning is open, it rotates down and rests in a bracket along the window frame to hold the main arm in place/down.

This must be a steel part - as it's pretty heavy duty and very rusted. Any ideas what to replace it with? Stainless? Course the cap nuts just fell apart too.

Also, one of the plastic clips that holds it to the main arm is broken (and I'm betting the other one is pretty brittle and will go anytime. Any ideas what to replace this with?

Neither of these parts are shown on the Zip Dee window awning parts detail.

Laura

Here's a picture that I tried to capture the arm and the plastic clip - it might be just a tiny bit out of focus. You think?

You can also get the arms from Out of Doors Mart and they sell the cap nuts in stainless. I just installed them - hit the bars with 3 coats of clear coat before putting them in. The clip item in your pic is no longer available. Called Zip Dee and the guy had never heard of them. He did call me back and said he talked to an oldtimer there. His joke was - turns out we did make those " for about an hour".

They said they now just let the bar hang down behind the mounting nut for the bottom of the arm. I have one bad and one good one. I'll flip you for the good one we each have...

Heads. I win. Please send your good one to me promptly!

I just called Zip-Dee and confirmed that they do not have the plastic clip. But the brace rod, acorn nut and vinyl end cap are each sold separately and readily available for a minimal price. Probably about 1/8 of the cost of shipping. I might try to fab my own.

Ganglin- thanks for the tip about a coat of clear. I might remember....
