Now why didn't I think of that?

I think we need to take it to South America to test this theory. Any volunteers for assistants?

On a more serious note, yes, the fabric is attached to the bottom of the aluminum cover slats, just where it is supposed to be. We've taken everything off the trailer at this point and it matches the pictures on the ZipDee awning site. The channel where the fabric slides in has gotten pretty chewed up by the person who replaced the awning the last time. That was all done under a previous owner.

The fabric has been patched, needs more patches, and the seam thread is dissolving. So a new awning is in order no matter what. It's more a question of whether we can determine the correct dimensions to make the new awning and whether we can, or even need to, get a replacement for that bottom aluminum slat. Time to dust off my sewing skills, I guess.
