Oops

Just got back from a nice cheap weekend...

Went tubing down a river, torrential downpour!!! Got back to the trailer and voila BROKEN arm on the awning. Now this is a 2007 27FBSE, I had lowered the awning two notches but I guess that wasn't enough! Funny thing is the arm I DIDN'T lower is the one that broke, or should I say SNAPPED.

Anyway it seems like a clean break so I'm trying to decide if I should take it down to the dealer and have them fix it or if it's something I could handle.

I've attached the parts image from ZipDee, it's part number 2. It's warped big time with a clean break. No other hardware damage that I can see.

Looks simple enough but hey...Now I doubt it's covered under warranty but I have to ask because I also have an extended warraty too.

My problem is I'm up here in Canada and parts for some reason always cost a LOT more.

Suggestions?

That's kind of a bummer, but you use your Airstream, things happen.

I would check on the warranty issue, but it may not be covered.

I'm pretty familiar with this type of Zip Dee, and I feel that you would be more than capable to install the new part yourself.

May be covered by your insurance unless you have a large deductible.

Sorry to hear about your awning arms, but welcome to the club!

I did the same thing a few years ago to my new awning. I had to buy new aluminum arms for mine. The steel inner arms were bent also, but Zipdee fixed them for me. Minw just bent, but did not break.

I now roll the awning up every night.

Wow, that's surprising. I assume you experienced some pretty stiff winds to do that.

No wind, just rain and lots of it. We were up on the rim and the sky opened up that night. It collapsed a 3 man dome tent that a friend of mine was sleeping in as well. In all fairness, I did not have the awning tilted for drainage, so it was mostly my fault. A $200 lesson learned.

Send a message via Yahoo to Alwhisman
I'd explore the warranty end first, insurance second. That way you know the options available to you, then make your decision........been there done that lol
