Sorry- but I don't usually need such a quick answer...this time I do!!
will a Zip Dee from a 2003 Airstream 31 footer fit my 1980 31 footer excella? I would think it would but wonder if the curved arms are very different.
Thanks
I have a chance to get an awning where I don't have one, and it wil almost match my other small ones.

....
Call Zip Dee. They are very cordial and helpful. Someone there may recall the specs.
The drawings in this post may be helpful. They look pretty accurate to what I see looking at my mid-70's Zip Dees. I think if the 3 bends look similar, you'll be OK.
I ordered a new Zip Dee from Lewster for my Overlander (not installed yet) and he never mentioned any problem with fitting the new stuff to the 70s Airstreams.
Alan, I found an awning arm to replace a damaged one on our 31', and it didn't fit. The wide body coaches have different arches and attachment areas. The awning itself and roller should fit, but the arms will be slightly different.

I had two conversations one with Airstream and one with ZipDee. I have to say both were helpful. Linda at zip dee really knows her Airstreams.
Here is the straight scoop from this-
1969 to 1993 Airstreams use the same zipdee measurements and hardware will fit interchangeably. You take the trailer length and subtract 10' 3/4" and that is the patio awning size. It lines right up to the rivet line at this point. For example on my 31 you need a 20' 11 1/4" awning.
1994 and later are different and require a 21'7" awning on the 31 for example.
The metal on the older models is "bright" while the newer are satin.
The curve and the rivet lines differ after 94.
Sooooo- if you have a 1994 or later 31 and need a used Zip Dee, PM me for the info ...it's available( not from me) and is about 1000. Half the cost of a new one.
And if you know of an older used one for mine, fill me in! Meanwhile I will be saving my spare $$ to get a new one. I was pretty excited about finding this one, but the quest goes on.

Alan, if the freight wasn't so high, I'd ship you the one off my 75 Sovereign. All parts are functional. I took it off to get the sand out of the outriggers--couldn't move them until I got them clean. In the process the awning came out of the awning rail--problem is on my Sovereign, not the Zip Dee. Evidently the PO had a problem and put an extra awning rail on the metal Zip Dee cover.
I'm going with a vintage style awning when I replace it.

I have a suggestion...such as it is...
Why not box up all the hardware, remove the fabric from the roller, and send everything BUT the roller to Alan? He could then have a roller sent to him, for less than a new awning would cost. It gets the awning to the person that needs it, and Alan gets a cheap awning, some assembly required. He would have to put it together anyway, even if it were brand new.
As someone that replaced the material last weekend, it isn't tough.

I heard rumors that replacing fabric took two astronuats and a small child (for the sacrifice). I'll think about it--remind me when I get back in two weeks. Gone tomorrow!

I have been looking at getting a roller, and then buying the hardware. The hardware is about 400 bucks, I haven't yet found a roller that is the right size for us. I looked at an A&E last weekend, but it was too long.
I actually considerd buying an older 30' trailer here that I could buy for parts, but then I remembered... I just got rid of one
Its the 1D 10t errors as the brain ages....

revived thread---- we decided to go with a vintage style awning. So many have these on their older Airstreams, and although ours is larger, we opted for a 16' Sunbrella fabric awning that will have colors very much like our new striping. I will post photos when ready. Its on its way but will be a little while.
