Installing Awnings

I was wondering how to install a long awning to the trailer. On the short ones, I attached the mounting tab to the trailer with the awning removed and then slid the awning back on the mounting tab. I was wondering that if trying to slide a long awning into the track on the mounting tab might be difficult because of the length. It is much easier to mount that tab to the trailer than trying to hold the complete assembly up there while you are trying to rivet everything together.

I have installed 2 long awnings on my 25' Tradewind. The patio awning was installed by removing a slat from the cover, installing the fabric piece to the rail and the roller to the arms. Then the removed slat is reinstalled.

On the streetside awning a rail was installed and the entire awning was slid into the new rail. The streetside awning was light enough for two people to easily slide into position.

My street side awning got torn off in the tornado. It is still intact but the rivets came loose. I think I will attach the mounting tab first as you did. Even if I don't reinstall the awning right away the holes are filled and sealed which is my main concern.

We had to rivet a new channel onto the awning cover. After we reinstalled the awning cover, we slid the awning fabric into the new channel, then inserted the roller tube, then attached the arms and tensioned the roller.

This is our blog entry that shows the curbside awning cloth hanging down the side of the trailer. Two of us slid it in just fine.
