How important is the alluminum guard

I have priced an A&E awning for my AS. Does everyone have the alluminum guard? The price difference is considerable. My SOB did'nt have it but they do look good. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I also may have the option to buy a used zip dee off a 2006 for a little less than a new A&E without guard, but it would need cut down. Will it fit a 69' ?

Get right or get left, and have a blessed day !

You will like the Zip Dee better. The uncovered awning looks bad and exposes the fabric to the elements. I do have a 9000 A&E which has a metal cover...pretty nice. If you can get a Zip Dee cheaper than an A&E....thats a deal. But, now it gets stickey with cutting and modifying. Thats your choice. Check with Zip Dee on that and the model arms you are looking at.

"If it can't be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished, resold, recycled or composted
then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production."

I believe the Zip Dee arms changed with the 1996 wide bodies. I have had both and would VERY HIGHLY recommend the Zip Dee, they are better in all comparisons. Zip Dee is much more customer friendly! You may spend more, but you'll never regret it! I'd check with Zip Dee before considering the used unit from a 2006, just call them!

Anyone know if you can purchase an aluminum cover aftermarket?

I have an older A&E 8000 with no cover - it's currently in good shape and I would buy a cover if it were somehow adaptable to what I have.

On my previous trailer I had an A&E vinyl awning. Typically the fabric awnings have the metal covers while the vinyl type don't. After several years a vinyl awning, the part of the awning that is exposed to sunlight when rolled up, will eventually start cracking allowing leakage (ours did) and will eventually tear. I would think the metal cover would provide better protection. Additionally the metal awning looks much better when rolled up.

I talked to Zip Dee and the lady said the 2006 zipdee will not fit my 69' ! I'm not sure I can afford a new zipdee so I may do an A&E.
