HELP! Awning pull strap lost!

Apparently I let the awning retract or snap back with to much force & the pull strap disappeared. How do I retrieve it???? I'd really appreciate some help here as I'm on the road & we love sitting out under the awning. Thanks.

U might be able to stand on the front door step and pull out on the rafter arm so that the awning opens enough that a helper could grab the strap. Worked for me.

If you have a step stool or ladder, you can release the awning stud locks with your awning rod, then on the ladder, rock the awning out from one end-the strap should fall out enough to catch with the rod. I have had to do it that way and it worked.

The end of the strap probably isn't too far from being visible. If you don't have a ladder or step stool to stand on to raise you up so that you can reach the roller, drag a picnic table beside your AS or back close enough to the picnic table so that you can stand on it. Then just poke your fingers under the edge of the awning roller. You might just be able to get to the end of the strap and pull it out.

This happened to us today. Just have a helper pull down on one outside pole while you pull on the other and gently roll it out. You need to do both sides at the same time.

Joe,
Very carefully using two people. One at each awning arm, slowly put both arms out away from the AS evenly. You should be able at that point pull the awning out far enough to retrieve the strap. Do not attempt under any circumstances to do this by yourself, not worth either getting hurt or damaging an expensive awning.

Once you complete this task, sit back under that awning in the Oregon country and enjoy. Good luck. Hope to see you when you return to FL!

Happend to me also. Now I hook the end of the pull rod into the awning strap loop before I roll in the awning just to make sure it does not happen again.

Tried everything & nothing worked until I decided to make my own pull down strap(s). I cut two 15 ft sections of clothes line, wrapped one around each end of the awning roller bar, in unison my wife & I pulled out the awning & retreved the strap. It had snapped way back that's why nothing else worked. Thanks for all the suggestions!

A fellow Airstreamer used a tent stake to hold that strap in the ground to make awning more sturdy on recent outing. So simple I had to try it too.

I like that idea for securing the awning. Maybe a screw in stake with a hook on the end.
