Fix original awning

The spring mechanism in our main side awning is broke; we have a '72 Overlander. Has anyone ever fixed one before? The airstream dealer near us thought it was possible.

If the awning is original it is probably an A&E. New parts are not available. I would check with RV repair shops about a used spring. If you try messing with the spring be careful it is an arm breaker. Because parts are in very short supply for A&E I put on a Zipdee.

My '72 Overlander had a ZipDee, so yours might too. If so, Go to their website and/or give them a call- they have a great customer service department, and can supply the necessary parts and how-to-install info you need. Great awnings!

Unless it was a custom order Zipdees were not standard in 72. Zipdee certainly was around in 72 and does have a very classic and distinctive look. Ditto on great customer service. It seems like other awning manufacturers don't want to talk directly to customers, referring them to dealers.
