Classic Rear Awning Shield

I had a problem with the rear awning on my classic. There is a protective sheild that had allowed water to get behind and it looked pretty nasty. Removed the plastic protective film and re-caulk the rear window. I know it is installed to prevent damage to the skin. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I was thinking of putting some clear bumpers on the outside of the aluminum case ??? to reduce the vibration??? or put the 3m film back on?
Thanks
Terry

Yes, the film doesn't wrap cleanly around rivets and seams well and allows water and dirt to work in behind it. I would protect the skin in some manner. I hadn't thought of clear rubber bumpers. Will have to think about that one. Might they point load too much and cause dimples in the skin?
