Here is a better photo. Sorry I was afraid I could not load both photos in the same email.

We are puzzled as to how the two short arms fit the two curved arms. I think we have all the parts just not sure how they work. We figured out the three matching pieced in the center bottom hold the metal strip that the top of the awning fabric slides in. The single bracket above them is for the center bar.

Photos would be helpful or diagrams.

CJ,

It looks like you have most, if not all of the parts. I can post some pictures from our Avion tomorrow that illustrate the component layout.

Here you can see my Carefree awning extended, and see where the smaller arms are.

When the awning is furled, you adjust those small arms to their shortest state and they fit inside the hollow of the big arms when the big arms are locked onto the mount that has the hinge for the small arms. My 24' trailer doesn't have that extra arm, I'm not sure how that fits in.

On my last post I stated original was better set up I meant to say new set up much better than original carefree caps and springs

Kevin & DKB, Thank you both for your photos, I think James is getting a good idea as to how to put the awning together.

Does anyone have a photo of the center arm? So we can see how it hooks up and what it is suppose to do?

Do you have a link to the new caps and spring set up by chance?

SMILE! James got both arms and the roller mounted today. We have been blessed by good Airstreamers who gave us most of our parts. We went to the Vintage Airstream Rally and a guy gave us the curved arms. Another couple in the Midwest Branson Rally gave us another set of arms with the short arms and the middle bar. A guy from the RV repair shop in Chickasha, Okla, said he had a New Dometic roller bar from a horse trailer he could fabricate to fit our Carefree curved arms. That was $250.00. Now we will be able to have awning fabric made to fit. Now, if we can figure out how the middle bar works. I am going to send some photos.

Middle bar of the awning. I have taken photos of each end. I think the end with the handle attaches in between the two windows. Not sure where the rest of the arm is suppose to be while driving down the road.

Number 40 & 41 have full view photos.

Would love anyones help in figuring this out the center arm placement.

I plan on calling Scottie's Friday and get a quote on the awning fabric replacement.

Speaking of awnings.....
On September 13, returning from an Arkansas trip, heading east on I-44 at about Sarcoxie, a dump truck passed us on an overpass and vacuumed open the Zip Dee road side awning on our AS. The front of the awning stayed shut, but the back opened.

There was a tremendous crosswind and by the time I was able to pull over to the should away from guard rails, every seam in the awning had been ripped open. I got the awning closed manually and pulled out on the highway. The first semi that passed me vacuumed out the awning again. This time I got some coat hangers and wired it shut so it would stay closed.

We made it back to Springfield with no further incidents.

The estimate to repair the awning at the RV shop I use here in Springfield is over $1800.00. Luckily we have insurance.

Zip Dee now makes a travel latch for the roadside awning. I'm having one put on.

Here are a couple of shots of the trailer with the awning shut and one showing the damage.

Called Scottie's (1-800-780-8677) talked to Felicia, she knew all about the curved arms on the AS. Are Carefree awning is 21' on center. As we have a Dometic/A&E bar, she said it was the same as a Carefree no problem.

I also ordered the Alumaguard, which she said some say it will not fit. Reading the forum we are willing to take on the challenge of putting it on. I will keep you informed.

Smile center arm carefree awning

The end with handle screws into 2 embedded brass female threads in center roller, hook end fastens onto bracket below roller

Hey Gus, thanks for asking... you know... I ordered the plastic caps from Oasis RV in Tucson on 9/20 and they STILL aren't here...

Not only were they severely overpriced at $20 a pop, but they charged me another $20 for shipping. I was told they were going to go out that same day. Now here we are three weeks later and I still don't have them. I called last week, on Wednesday to ask what the status was and was told "they went out, they should be there any day now." I asked for a tracking number and they said they'd call me back (of course that never happened).

Considering my springs look pretty dingy and rusted out as well, I may just buy the new end caps that featherbedder referenced and be done with it, and fight the credit card charges with the bank from Oasis.

I was under the impression that you were probably done with it or that you had the parts and may be just need it an extra couple of hands.

Ha, no worries my man. I sincerely appreciate the offer to help. I'll let you know when this thing gets momentum again. I just bought my daughter her first car so a lot of my resources and time are going there right now.

I still need to swing by and see the beast!!

Gus, how about I just show up with a sixer of cold beer when it's all said and done? hehehe.

As an update, I finally got the plastic end caps in... took almost a month for Oasis RV in Tucson to get them to me. They lied on three separate occasions on how they were shipped and when they were shipped.

When I called to cancel my order and demand a refund, she assured me they'd be there the same day. Turns out they were... because she overnighted them the day before. So for three weeks, they were lying to me about when they sent them out. If the price wasn't absolutely absurd, and they told me it'd be a month, I'd have no problem. The only reason I paid the $60 for two small pieces of plastic is because they told me they were shipping them the same day and I was hoping to have them that weekend. I'll know for future dealings... don't order anything from Oasis RV in Tucson. I normally wouldn't put a company on blast like that, but they really hosed me on all accounts.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand, I'm going to get the trailer from storage tomorrow night I believe and get to work on the awning. We'll see how far I get.
