Carefree

The 1975 sovereign I just bought has a Carefree awning. I know there is a problem with the spring and the fabric is from another awning. It is about three feet too short.
I don't want to invest in a complete new awning at this time considering the other things I need to do.

Are parts and/or manuals available for these units?

Carefree of Colorado is still in business, Carefree of Colorado - Recreational Vehicle Awnings

Not sure how far back they go with parts for older awnings, but you can get new fabric from several sources online.

Hi Airlifter,

Old parts can be found but there are no NOS parts for the old Carefree units of the 70's era. Here is a link to a post that contains a copy of the Carefree manual.

Carefree Awning assembly? - Airstream Forums

Also www.odmrv.com use to carry replacement end caps but they were out of stock the last time I checked.

Fabric is readily replaceable but the springs are not. I was working on a retrofit using new Carefree spring sets but I got sidetracked and never got it completed.

springs & end caps are available from carefree but new style goes over arm not plug in like old style, still works fine as I had to do this with mine.

Hi Airlifter:
I just cut my Carefree awning off my 75 Tradewind. Some parts are probably still good, the arms and any other mechanisms, but some parts are rusty. I never operated it either. The awning is now no good, but it had holes, etc. anyway. You are welcome to it for free, but you'd have to drive up to Washington, PA to get it. If you are at all interested I could take photos for you to decide if it is worth the drive.
