Hi, I have a 28 foot Intl'. I got an inservice on how to set up the awning but the door bumps it when I open it. When it stays open, no troubles.

How high up should it go and how do I know I have set the awning to max height? Does this make any sense?

don't know the year of your trailer...

let's pretend it's recent

with the current line of zipdees (post 1989) there are 4 holes or positions for the snap stud on the main arms.

i almost always use the 4th hole for the main awning arm nearest the door, this is the fully raised position.

and the 3rd or 2nd hole for the snap stud on the distant arm. the slope is absolutely needed of rain.

depending on awning length 4/3 usually clears the door while 4/2 just lightly rubs.

and don't forget to lock the rafter arms before raising on the main arms...

zipdee has a nice website and the user guide online, maintenance and so on...

Thanks all for the help. When the awning is open, The door rubs the canvas on the way open. I will double check to make sure I am on the 4th hole.

The fabric may have a little sag to it as well. See if you can adjust the rafter arm to the next detent by pulling outward from the trailer.

My ZipDee need to be in the fourth hole for the door not to rub on it. When it's in the third hole, it appears to be fully deployed, but it is not. Be careful to stop at the fourth hole. It is not far past there where the support rod separates. Set the end opposite the trailer door at the third hole when it rains, so that the ZipDee drains properly.

Should be on the 4th hole setting. Mine rubs too if I use just three on the Zip Dee arm.

Some of the pre-1985 ZipDees did not have a 4th hole.
My Argosy Minuet did not have a fourth hole.
Neither did my original ZipDee on my 1977 Argosy 22 or the 1976 Argosy 24.
All I did was raise it up and it "bit into" the arm. It works fine that way.
I did eventually drill a couple detents in the lower arm so it would stay.
Not sure if all of the older ZipDees had the missing fourth hole or not.

The 4th hole is a winner. The bars were kind of stiff to pull out so I only had them out to a 3. Since I am a novice, I only had them on 3.

And then I figured out I was placing the brace on the middle bolt, not on the awning spindle. It works great. Which goes to prove that is a great web site.

Thank you for your help. The Zipp Dee web site was'nt bad, I found an illustration that clued me.

Sometimes that 4th hole is a brute to set. One additional suggestion I have is to keep the telescoping parts of the arms well lubricated. I use teflon spray as it doesn't seem to attract dirt like WD 40 or other oil based lubricants. Some of my A/S friends have a handle that fits on the support arms that gives them more grip to extend the arms.
The other trick about ZipDee awnings is to make sure you slowly let it rewind when you are taking it down. You can lose that little canvas pull tab and it's brutal to find it again if you let it "snap" back into the roller.

Has anyone ever used the Awnbrella awning bows?

I have a similar problem with the door rubbing on the awning. I have a 2005 Safari that is equipped with a ZipDee Awning. The last I had it ope, I checked for a higher position on the arms and didn't find one.

Our last Airstream was an '88 Excella. It had a roller on the top of the door that prevented the rubbing of the door. I inquired about having one placed on the Safari. I was told it was available but the Awnbrella was recommended to me instead.

We've had the same problem with the door rubbing on the awning - getting the 4th hole is sometime a real... issue... Several people I've talked with have had David Tidmore in Weatherford, TX add the Awnbrella bows which absolutely took care of the problem. Also gives runoff height for rain water.

Made the mistake once of having the awning all pulled out equally, (w/o dropping one end a notch). Came back at the end of the day after one of them spontaneous, completely unexpected and unforecasted Texas gully washers. Had to replace one sides support arm... rain water weight bent that sucker in the most amazing way (incredible how much water an awning can hold before failure!). Always drop one side a notch or two... looks funny but not as funny as one of the supports bent in two.

Four nerf footballs placed just under the awning shield does a nice job. Helps with rain run off and holds awning up so door won't rub on door. Also handy for those quick make up games this time of year.

Be sure to have the colors matching all the way down. Image is everything.

We have our fall colors showing now.
