Awning Retrofit

As some have seen my earlier post, I have recently purchased a Zip Dee awning for my 72' 31ft Sovereign which did not have an awning at purchase. But had an awning at one time which appears not to have been a Zip Dee, My Question? Were these installed with just adhesive and screws? Or were they thru bolted with backing plates? I have just finished my interior remodel and would just hate to tear the walls out again! But it must be done at least as well as it would have been done in that era.

Awning

I removed a Carefree awning frame(canvass was gone) from my 78 31'. It was installed with 5/8" lag bolts. A word of caution, If the ZipDee was "used" be sure to check with ZipDee factory. Seems that the 31' was manufactured with different spacing on the ribs(where the awning must be located) during the 70's and 80's. They keep records and can guide you. If you ordered from ZipDee direct and provided the year and model it should mount with s/s screws #10 or #12' 1" long. I bought an awning from a 2006 31' Classic and it is 6" too long, am in the process of shorting the roller tube and canvass prior to mounting. I wanted to match all the awnings and the other 3 are ZipDee's.

You do all of the install from the outside of the trailer. Screws and rivets are used to secure the brackets to the trailer. You can see all of the hardware used here: Awnings By ZipDee

Our Zip Dee awning ('71 Tradewind) has backing plates installed where the screws didn't quite line up w/ the ribs; I saw these while I had the inside panels off to repair the floor near the door....

Thank Goodness it was not kinked! But I do have a nice bend in it, any suggestions?

You can get installation specs from Zipdee. If you can't PM me. Mount brackets over the ribs. I took a long salvaged Zipdee and shortened the roller to match up with ribs.
