Awning Rail Replacement - Vintage 1961

We are planning to replace our awning rail (1961 Overlander). Any advice? We are worried that replacing the rivets will be tough to line up. Planning to wait for a clear rain free day - to remove old rail, clean, polish, and reinstall. Drilling holes in the new awning rail (from Vintage Trailer Supply) using the old rails as a template. Any suggestions? Things we should know before we move forward?? Thanks!
