Awning questions

Had an awning incident last year (had to cut it down during a dangerous wind storm) and now looking to get it replaced. Can anyone reccomend a good/reliable company for a replacement? Just need the fabric. Thanks!

funny, I didn't. I just assumed there were a ton of companies making quality replacments for a good price.

Are you telling me to just go back to Zip Dee? I always thought their prices were crazy high.

ZipDee would not be crazy high.
I’ve gotta know what kinda windstorm would cause you to “cut” down your awning (cutting the Awning fabric). That’s a commitment for sure. That’s like getting a face tattoo, No turning back.

If you’re looking for someone to fabricate the awning complete, Marti’s Vintage Trailer Awnings in Ca is another option. If you just need the fabric, you can look at Dickson, Sunbrella or some of the other online fabric stores. Good luck

If your trailer came with a ZipDee awning they will have an exact match for the fabric you cut off. Hopefully your roller and springs were not damaged when you cut the material loose. Ed

I needed ZipDee for a part.
The guy I talked to was knowledgeable, the price reasonable, and everyone was nice.
Shipping will be what they pay and it adds up.
Good company.

I once drove through western Kansas on I-70. For whatever reason with blue sky the wind was incredible. My motorhome awning unfurled while I was driving*. I managed to limp into a Walmart and get it rolled back up. My campground was only 10 miles down the road. As I checked in, a parade of motorhomes pulled in with their awnings cut off. They weren't as lucky as I was.
Birds flew 5' off the ground. My drink glass slid down the picnic table. Welcome to the "High Plains".
The next day was again beautiful with light breezes.

*If the wind hits the side of your RV, the wind gets under the awning cover, and overpowers the latch. ZIP! Out goes the awning while you're driving!

We had a similar experience in Texas in 2016, my vintage was built sans travel latches (now does) on the street side.
I managed to get my awning rolled back in but the damage was done. My stitching was dry rotted and all the seams popped.
I removed the awning and had an Upholstery shop re stitch it.
I called Zip Dee for direction...
They won't fix it as they say the dirt fouls their sewing machines.
They did however mail me a bobbin of the new thread.... Gratis!
Cost me $40 in labor and the task of removing a salvagable awning.
I would call Zip Dee and order an identical replacement. There is no after market replacement. Do it right!

I bought the fabric. She charged under 200 for the labor and shipping.
