Smile Awning leaking water thru fabric

Has anyone used STARBRITE to reseal (recondition)the awning fabric? I have heard about 303 Fabric Guard but it is very expensive for a 20ft Zip Dee

I believe that I read somewhere that the fabric leaks more when it is dirty. I assume yours is clean since you want to try a sealer.
I'm always worried that treating the fabric with something that will repel water might make it hold dirt more.
Whatever it is that is recommended by Sunbrella is what I would use.
So far I haven't treated mine with anything. In a really hard rain some moisture does "spray" through the fabric.

Pop for the 303. I believe is what Sunbrella uses. I washed all of the awnings on our Excella, let them dry, and treated them with 303. Works great.

You could be wasting a lot of time and money trying something else, then end up going for the 303 in the end anyway.

awnings

Awnings provide shade, they are not meant to be "water proof" Zip Dee recommends cleaning with soap and water regularly to keep the water resistant.

old awnings

At 19 years, the canvas from the orig Zipdee's leaked like a siv. Went to my favorite rv supply and asked what to use? They sold me a product call Canvak. A gallon was $26. and when sprayed with a garden spraver covered all the awnings, Main, rear windows and driver side. The stuff worked great, they all shed water like a duck! My next door neihbor said he had used Thompsons deck water seal on his boat canvas and kept his canvas good for years. Stayed water tight until last year when I replaced all the canvas due to old seams falling apart, but still repelled water until the end.

WhenI had boat awning leakage, I was told by professional repairer not to use the wax product to seal as it makes repairs impossible. My guess is silicone or 303 would not prevent repairs, thread was much weaker than the sunbrella after years in the sun.
If it is an awning that is not rolled up I have found roofing rubber paint solves all leakage for a couple of years and is easy to recoat, but the same disclaimer, can't be repaired.

Call ZipDee or check their website. No point in doing something rash and damaging the fabric. I too believe cleaning helps!
