Awning bracket fastening

Re: '96 Excella. The front mechanism, curb side is quite difficult to operate. It appears the bracket near the top, which holds the unit down when retracted/traveling, has been lowered 1/2", causing a bind. What is behind the skin to fasten to? If the original screw holes were stripped, causing someone to lower the bracket, how could the original holes be reused? Larger screws, fill the holes with "liquid metal" of some type and see if the new fasteners will hold? Thoughts and ideas appreciated.

Liquid metel will not work. Either find an anchor at the home depot (there is a whole section in hardware near the drywall anchors , masonry anchors) to screw into or make a plate to attach that has new holes in it for the screws, you can make this out of aluminum and rivit on, if you do it nicely it will hardley be noticable.
