Adding an awning

I am the proud new owner of a 1976 Sovereign, pretty much completely gutted. We know we are in for A LOT of work. Our Airstream doesn't have an awning on it but we'd love to add one. I thought i'd reach out to this community that has helped us so much in educating us before our purchase.

Is it very difficult to install an awning? I'd be getting the Zip Dee awning nothing automatic.

No big deal to install an awning. Measure, measure, measure, drill and secure.

The final step of sliding the segments together requires a bit of muscle and some height.

Zipdee has great customer support and can answer any questions you have.

Winding the awning spring is the one yellow flag I can think of. Not rocket science but if you are not careful the awning arm can get away from you and do damage to both your Airstream and your person. (see my thread Airstream Owies))

As long as you have a few helping hands for getting awning into chanel and lifting the roller into place it's pretty straight forward. You'll need Olympic rivets and shaver for the install. Oversized rivets for the arm mount brackets.
Call zip Dee they'll tell you exactly how to measure. Plus you get to pick your fabric!

Measure very carefully as if off any, it's yours. When I had Zip-Dee install mine they measured rite but one figure as put in computer wrong resulting in rd side wrong when installed, they imed. removed, made new awning no charge to me. If I measured wrong tuff stuff. My feeling of Zip-Dee product and customer care is terrific. Also I had one of first awnings made By Henry when worked out of his garage and installed by himself at my house. Bill
