Question A&E Imperial 8000 awning help?

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with some information about my A&E Imperial 8000 awning on my 72 ambassador. I started working on it and think I am missing some parts from the adjustable heigth bars. Everything seems to work ok as far as I can tell however I can't figure out how you lock the arms at any of the holes when I raise the awning? am I missing something or doing something wrong? I see where it is supposed to lock but it does not.

Higgy,

I had that type of awning and one day one of the lifting handles stopped working. The ratchet device broke for some reason or other. So what I ended up doing was getting a hitch pin and stuck it in the proper hole whenever I needed it.

A&E may have a replacement part, but that worked well enough for me.

Pat

Pat, I think the part you may need is a spring clip and A & E makes replacements for their awnings. Check with your awning dealer.

Thanks but...

Thanks for you replys, and I thought of that but was wondering if there would be a problem with wind lifting the awning if a big wind came up, and would that hurt anything? if I use a pin in one of the holes nothing will keep it from lifting, what do you think.

I'd never leave it out for a big wind to take it. And do whatever it took to not be surprised by one.

I also used a pin in a previous trailer awning with no problems. Wind is always a consideration whether you have the original parts or a pin.
