So my awning rubs on top of door when out. I have it as high as it will go and center support in. The back has one extra hole in arm than front is this normal so it drains if it rains. This is one big awning and woud be great if it would not rub door. Should I just drill another hole in front pole to adjust height so it will go higher so door clears. I hate to modify stuff from factory but the rubbing door is going to wear awning if I do not fix. This trailer is used and I can see orignal owner just let it rub which is not cool. Thanks for any help.

I can say that on our 31-footer, if the awning is not up as far as it can go, the door will rub on it. In fact, the PO installed a small wheel at the top right corner to allow it to move more easily over the fabric.

It's my idea that when the awning is deployed, the door is not meant to be used.

Logically, why would you?

Don't modify it. Just put a wheel on top of the door so it won't tear the fabric. Not unusual.

You might also try a piece of 3m clear tape. Its the same material that you see on new cars to protect the paint from rock chips behind the wheels. Clean the surface well on the edge of the door where contact is made and apply the tape. It will still rub but it will be smooth unlike the edge of the door where the sharp aluminum snags the fabric. I have not done this personally but have seen it done and it works well.

Hi, since you didn't post a picture, and I have seen this so many times before, did you put your awning arms in the wrong place? They go on the awning roller shaft and a few people have connected them to the storage pins on the main awning arms.

How about swapping the rear arm with the extra hole for the front arm?

We have a large blue noodle float that we slit down one side, fit it over the center awning support, and it raises the awning enough to avoid the door rubbing on it. I works just fine and is easily stored when traveling or not using the awning.

Thanks for all the ideas. I am going to try the noodle or switch front and back arms if I can. It sucks Airstream did not fix this before they ship a $95000.00 trailer with these problems, it sounds like a common problem. How is these awning in the wind and rain compared to normal awning the material is way different. Are 2006 Okanagan had a great awning with no problems.

You do not have the awning fully extended, there is nothing wrong with it. Show us pictures. Jim

I will not be around trailer for couple of days to get pictures. I am sure it was fully extened because tube came right out bottom pole in front support that is when I discovered back support extened farther up. If the back extending rod can be changed out for front it might work.

Hi, did you tension the upper awning arms and did you lock both lower arms in the forth hole?

My front lower arm only has 3 holes the back goes higher and that is the problem.

If you tilt the awning (one side higher than the other) it sheds rainwater better.

Im surprised... most have four holes front and rear. Havent seen one with only three positions. You could always drill another hole as the rod has plenty of travel down in the tube.

The front and rear arms are not drilled the same. 4 holes in the back and 3 holes in the front would keep it level. I believe if you extend the front arm a little farther you may find that 4th hole to raise your awning 6 more inches to give the tilt to shed rain water and yet fix the problem airstream let out of the factory on your $95000 rig. Live and learn. Enjoy.

So I phone dee zee awnings today and orded new front lower bar with 4 holes, cost was only $35.00 and front only had 3 holes not sure why but oringal owner did not bother looking into it. I guess it did not bother him that top of door rubbed which I could not handle wrecking canvas.
